What Should a Turnkey Coil Packing Line Project Include?
A turnkey coil packing line project needs a written boundary: supply scope, site readiness, installation responsibilities, commissioning, training, and handover. Learn what to define before the contract is signed.

Delivery, Installation and Commissioning: What a Turnkey Project Includes
"Turnkey" does not mean the same thing in every quotation. It should describe a defined boundary of delivery, installation, commissioning, training, and handover. A project fails when those boundaries are assumed instead of written.
This guide helps project, operations, and procurement teams define what a turnkey automatic coil packing line project must include.
Define the Supply Boundary
State which equipment, materials, and services are included: machines, conveyors, control systems, safety guarding, integration, and consumables for commissioning. Mark clearly what is excluded: building work, foundations, utilities, or buyer-furnished items.
The scope matrix should be part of the contract, not a sales summary.
| Included in the turnkey scope | Explicitly excluded |
|---|---|
| Machines, conveyors, and controls | Building work and foundations |
| Safety guarding and integration | Utilities and data network |
| Commissioning consumables | Buyer-furnished items |
| Installation support and training | Permits and site services |

Plan Delivery and Site Readiness
The site must be ready before the equipment arrives: floor, access doors, foundations, utilities, and data network. Confirm the delivery route, crane or lifting plan, and the schedule.
A delay in site readiness is one of the most common causes of a longer installation.
| Site readiness item | Confirm before delivery |
|---|---|
| Floor and access route | Lifting and delivery path approved |
| Foundations | Load points verified |
| Utilities | Power, air, and water available |
| Data network | Control and ERP/MES connection points ready |
| Buyer-furnished items | On site or delivered on time |
The image shows a strip automated packing line installed in a plant. Site readiness means the floor, utilities, access route, and network can receive this equipment and its controls when it arrives.
Define Installation Responsibilities
State who supplies supervision, labor, tools, lifting equipment, and safety management. A supplier can supervise installation without providing every worker. The boundary should be visible in the quotation.
| Responsibility | Supplier | Buyer |
|---|---|---|
| Installation supervision | Yes | - |
| Site labor and tools | Define in quotation | Define in quotation |
| Lifting equipment | Define in quotation | Define in quotation |
| Safety management | Define in quotation | Define in quotation |

Commissioning Is Not the Same as Testing
Commissioning proves that the equipment runs in the installed site. Acceptance testing proves that it meets the agreed product and performance criteria. Both are needed, but they have different owners and evidence.
Include the commissioning plan, the spare parts required, and the intervention response during commissioning.
Watch a fully automatic steel strip coil packaging line complete process:
Include Training and Documentation
Define operator training, maintenance training, manuals, control documentation, spare-parts list, and the responsible owner for each. Training should be completed before handover, not after the team has already begun production.
Define Handover and Warranty
State what happens at handover: the acceptance criteria, the remaining punch-list items, the warranty start date, and the support response. The project is not complete when the machine starts; it is complete when the buyer can operate and maintain it.
A Practical Next Step
Create a delivery and installation matrix with included/excluded items, responsibilities, schedule, training, and handover criteria. Review it with the supplier before the contract is signed, and keep the same matrix as the baseline for the automatic coil packing line handover.
